How can the Sports Commission help your organization?
The Tacoma-Pierce County Sports Commission is a non-profit organization that assists in the development of amateur athletes and athletic teams in Pierce County. Our mission, along with assisting amateur teams and athletes, is to promote Pierce County as a destination for amateur sporting events. We are funded by Tacoma, Fife, Puyallup, Lakewood and Pierce County to provide free services to our community.
The Sports Commission works with clubs, colleges and organizations to bring an event to our area. These events range from state and regional competitions to national tournaments, which draw people from all over the country.
Depending on the host's situation, the Sports Commission will typically work with their organizing committee to:
- Bid on an amateur event or tournaments.
- Secure a venue/facility to host an event.
- Assistance with civic special event permitting.
- Secure an affordable host hotel rate.
- Send out press releases.
- Promote club and program awareness to help with membership growth.
- Assist with an event parking/transportation plan.
- Cover postage for flyers/entry forms to get increased participation.
- Provide a link or page on the Sports Commission's Web and Social Media sites.
- Provide visitor information (guides and pamphlets)
- Other details needed by the host organization.
The Sports Commission also has an Amateur Athletic Fund available for clubs to apply for if they are a 501 (c) 3. These grants are usually awarded for seed money to help with costs of planning an event or tournament.
